Program Components

The En Garde! Detroit is more than just a fencing company. We take great care in designing our EGD: Mobile with an advanced concept on youth development. EGD strives to achieve specific educational results in all its youth fencing programs. Fencing is also known as “physical chess”, which promotes high levels of cognitive & physical training which can benefit children on and off the fencing strip.

Every program starts with 20-30mins of EGD: Focused Advantage training. This allows for not only physical warm-up, but also prolonged concentrated mental stimulation which forces the students to practice being focused for long periods of time. The theory is, if we keep our children mentally active while having fun they will transfer that same level of focus into their academic and behavioral lifestyles.

Youth Development

fencingkids

Fencing is an ideal youth development tool because it is a progressive series of activities and experiences which help youth become socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively resilient. By requiring a high level of focus for an extended duration of time, we can see the positive correlations in academic scoring in our children.

En Garde! Detroit has started tracking the academic growth of students in our program and will use this information to better develop our program in the future. Lack of choices sometimes necessitates change. In the Detroit-Metropolitan area, such necessities exist in our schools, community groups, and youth development programs.

Below are our (5) five Core Values:

1. Reinforcing a tradition of respect.

2. Building resilient children to become well-rounded adults

3. Increasing analytical & decision making abilities

4. Increasing physical development & healthy lifestyles

5. Increasing self- esteem & confidence
