About Us
Founder:
Bobby Smith was raised along with his three siblings in the surrounding areas of Newark, New Jersey. Mr. Smith serves as a testament to the disadvantaged youth that success can be obtained by anyone willing to take the necessary steps. Bobby was introduced to fencing in his early teen years while attending St. Benedict’s Preparatory in Newark, N.J. Later he was accepted to the Peter Westbrook Foundation, providing him the opportunity to receive Olympic caliber coaching in New York City and compete across the country. He later joined the Wayne State University Fencing Team with an athletic scholarship. While leading the Men’s Fencing Team, Wayne State University finished Top 10 in the country year after year. During his freshman year, Bobby placed Top 25 in the NCAA.
Bobby has served as the Vice President of the Board to the Renaissance Fencing Club, which has a history in Michigan of providing quality fencing instruction for over 10 years. Bobby coached under internationally renowned Head Coach, Jersey Radz, as an Assistant Coach for Wayne State University’s Fencing Team. During which time, he facilitated hundreds of private lessons and high level NCAA training programs.
While fencing is important to Bobby, he is unique because of his multifaceted skill base which he uses to develop positive collaborations around the city. While serving on boards and consulting in the areas of marketing, advertising, & event planning, Bobby has established relationships vital to the growth of En Garde! Detroit and our communities. Currently, he serves as the Director of Youth Affairs for the District 6 of Michigan, appointed by State Representative Fred Durhal, Jr.

In 2008, En Garde! Detroit became a licensed L.L.C in the state of Michigan. We specialize in developing fencing programs for use across various areas, including birthday parties, recreational programming, after-school sports, demos/presentations, etc. Our primary focus is serving educational and program based organizations. Such as schools, non-profits, and youth groups interested in provided a unique experience.
Our secondary services are focused on providing high quality instruction and equipment to movie production companies seeking stunt double casting, scene development and actor training.
What are the costs associated?
They vary depending on the type of program requested. Normally the school or group requesting services will cover the cost associated for individual students. When thinking about if you can afford fencing, stop and call us. We have a great deal of experience in working with different groups to achieve a program that fits your budget while delivering a high return on investment. Depending on the location and demographics of the group we would be servicing, we even have grant options available.
